SACMEQ meeting on “The Design and Development of Instruments (Tests, Questionnaires, and Manuals) for the SACMEQ IV Project”, Nairobi, Kenya.
From 19-23 March 2012, representatives from all fifteen SACMEQ Ministries of education gathered in Nairobi to design and develop new instruments for the SACMEQ IV Project. The main goal of the meeting was to conduct a cross-national curricula analysis, write new test items for the SACMEQ tests, and to review the policy concerns from the previous studies in order to include new issues.
The meeting was officially opened by the Kenyan Minister of Education, the Honourable Professor Samson Ongeri, who expressed his hope that the assembly of like-minded educationists, researchers and policy makers would result in the sharing and development of robust and good instruments for the  SACMEQ IV Project. |

The meeting was also attended by two Representatives from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Angola. Ms Anabella Baptista and Mr Alvaro Morais indicated that participation in SACMEQ IV would be “a great learning experience for the Angolan Ministry of Education”, and would enable Angola to compare the quality of its education with other Southern African countries.
Mr Antoine Marivin from the Programme d’Analyse des Systemes Educatifs des Pays de la CONFEMEN (PASEC) observed that his organisation has a lot to learn from SACMEQ methodologies and expressed optimism for the on-going cooperation between the two organisations.
